Creating a Mini Niche Website – Keyword Research

Doing a keyword research is the first part of creating a mini niche website to make money online.  Do not spend too much time on this process since our goal is to create at least one mini niche site each week.  Spend anywhere between a few minutes to an hour on this.

The goal is:

  • Find a few keywords that have a sufficient volume of traffic
  • And the keywords do not have too much competition
  • So this will make it easier for your mini niche site to rank better and make more money

Ok, how do we do this.  Here are the steps:

1) Put your ideas on paper – I usually just look around and write on paper random things that I see or just words that I think of randomly.

For this experiment I looked at my kitchen and saw the following:

  • A can of spam meat
  • A bottle of olive oil
  • A microwave

2) Keyword Research - for this I utilize a webtool called WordTracker GTrends, which tells you how many searches the term gets on a daily basis, how many sites are referenced by the keyword (competition) and the number of hits the #1 site gets from Google.

So entering the 3 keywords, I noticed the following:

GTrend - Keyword Search

GTrend Keyword Search

Keyword                 Search         Google Competition     Actual #1 From Google

Spam Meat               80                        10,400                              106

Olive Oil                     389               23,900,000                     11,788

Microwave Oven   292                  3,200,000                       1,702

On an MS Excel worksheet, I type in all the  keywords that have at least 50 searches a day and less then 100,000 results with quotes attached, but it’s a judgement call.  I might  write down a keyword that gets 20 to 30 searches/day if the competition is extremely low.

For the 3 keywords I looked up for this blog, I will only develop a mini niche site for “Spam Meat”.

Here is the sample mini niche website on Spam Meat:

Enjoy, and when I get a chance, I discuss the next steps to profiting from a mini niche website strategy.
