Do You Want an Indoor Swimming Pool?

We all know just how fun swimming can be, no matter how old you are. Swimming is also a great way to get fit, and build and tone muscles as well. If you have finally decided to take the leap and get your own swimming pool, you have a few choices to make. You will need to first decide whether you want an in-ground swimming pool, or above ground swimming pool, and whether you want an indoor swimming pool, or an outdoor swimming pool. If you can afford it, there are many benefits to be had from an indoor swimming pool. One of the most obvious benefits being that you can enjoy your swimming pool all year long, no matter what the outside weather is like. You can swim whenever you choose, even if it is snowing outside. If you are on a swim team, or are taking lessons, you can practice all year long, without having to go to a gym or YMCA that has an indoor pool you can use. If you swim for health reasons, now you can swim on your own schedule, without ever having to leave home.

It is much easier to control the atmosphere inside than it is outside, meaning that when you swim in your indoor swimming pool, you don’t have to worry about getting sun-burned, or exposed to harmful rays that could damage your skin, or even cause cancer. You don’t have to worry about having to skim leaves and insects out of your swimming pool, which is a big bonus! You will also be able to shower and change both before getting in the pool, and after, without having to use a public facility, or trek through the grass from your outdoor swimming pool. Even with all the good things about indoor swimming pools, there are some negative things that you should think about as well.

Some people like spending their time outside, especially in the pool, so you might miss being able to do that. Another thing is that indoor swimming pools can require quite a bit of space in your home, and if you don’t already have that space, you will be looking at spending a considerable amount of money to build it. Another common complaint that owners of indoor swimming pools have is that the humidity rising off the water damages their home. It can destroy paint, wood, ceilings, etc., and can even be responsible for mold and bacteria growth in your home. You have to take steps to prevent this humidity buildup, usually in the form of an expensive dehumidifier or air conditioning unit installed in the room.

If you are having a room constructed specifically for your indoor swimming pool, you might want to have it built with moisture resistant materials, and talk to an architect about a design that mild help limit the amount of humidity in the room. You want to protect your home, so this is an important step if you are installing an indoor swimming pool!
